Some career coaches make upwards of NZD$100,000 per year; many make less than that. Many students start coaching for fees prior to completing their course, in this way, recovering the course costs sooner rather than later. Most coaches charge between $50-250 per one hour of coaching.
Will I be able to train to be a coach if I am working full-time?
Absolutely! The majority of coaches in training are working full-time and successfully manage to combine work and training.
What do I get for my money?
- One-to-one training in a small group setting by an internationally recognised career expert, Cassandra Gaisford (Dominion Post columnist) - Learn effective and powerful skills to help you start working with your clients quickly and effectively.

- Ongoing support and belonging to a community network of other Worklife coaches
- Certification with one of New Zealand’s most recognised professional coaching organisation.
- Employment opportunities. Many of the coaches we train contract back their services to us, meaning you don’t have to go out there and tout for business.
The Structure of this course
DAY ONE:
The course begins by helping you to understand the practice of coaching what life coaching is and the issues that many clients present with. Once you have a clearer idea of these practical considerations, you can then focus on the techniques of coaching.
We will then look in more detail at the "Free to be me" life coaching programme. Day one will focus on giving you a good understanding of the principals that underlie the life coaching process.
DAY TWO:
On day two we will put your new knowledge into practise by role playing and working with "real" issues that clients present with.
We will then take a more in depth look at the practise of career coaching. You will be pleased to see that there are many similarities between life coaching and career coaching. However there are some major differences too. This section of the course will help you to master the skills and techniques unique to career coaching. Learning these skills will give you a much fuller toolkit to work with your clients.
DAY THREE:
On our final day together we will give you some more "real life" examples for you to practise your skills. This practical experience is an essential part of the training. Dealing with real examples and applying your skills helps you to build confidence in your skill set and gives you tangible experience of working with the Worklife Solutions workbooks – the very workbooks you will be using with your own client base.
The course will then end with identifying some strategies for helping you to look after yourself.
On the following page you will find a summary of the course outline.
AFTER THE WORKSHOP HAS ENDED:
Applying your skills once the workshop has ended is critical to gaining confidence and mastery. In addition to qualify from this training you will need to complete 50 hours of coaching experience. We would encourage you to identify people who would benefit from either career or life coaching and would be willing to let you "practise" your techniques on. Please let us know if you need help to find some clients. These clients will be asked to complete a feedback questionnaire which will be used as part of your course evaluation.
